Riverside facility a powerful setting to apply basic and applied science

Mayer and his Applied Geochemistry research group use concentration analyses to identify the level of nutrients and contaminants in aquatic systems and sophisticated stable isotope fingerprinting tools to identify the sources of the contaminants. He says this approach yields unique information on the most likely causes for surface water and groundwater contamination and on the fate of nutrients and contaminants in aquatic systems. Read the UToday Article here.

U of C research facility opens at city's wastewater treatment plant

The Advancing Canadian Wastewater Assets project, a partnership between the University of Calgary and the City of Calgary, will allow researchers to work alongside municipal operators to develop technologies that will lead to cleaner water, better environmental protection and improved public health.

Study of aftershocks sheds more light on Fox Creek earthquake

University of Calgary researchers have determined they recorded four small aftershocks at the epicentre of a magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Fox Creek that is believed to have been triggered by hydraulic fracturing.
