Tom Oliver Lecture and Open House

Please join us for the Tom Oliver Lecture and Open House on November 2nd.  Dr. Don Lawton will be the Tom Oliver Lecturer this year.  He will be presenting "Post-Earthquake Seismic Reflection Survay, Christchurch, New Zealand" a CSEG Canadian Distinguished Lecture Tour Presentation.

Building better geoscientists

Dozens of people from Calgary’s oil and gas industry turned out to see student teams ‘One Seis Fits All,’ ‘Frac and Cheese’ and others from the 2012 fourth-year Geophysics Field School.

Every year, about 35 students head out for a 10-day field school where they face real world problems and deadlines and learn to integrate the theory they’ve learned in the classroom with experiential learning in the field. And then they come back and write up their results in scientific posters (with creative names) to present to industry.

Huge discovery

The ostrich-like dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park movie were portrayed as a herd of scaly, fleet-footed animals being chased by a ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. New research published in the prestigious journal Science reveals this depiction of these bird-mimic dinosaurs is not entirely accurate — the ornithomimids, as they are scientifically known, should have had feathers and wings.  Read more on UTODAY...
