The University of Calgary played host to the 2012 Calgary Youth Science Fair (CYSF) April 18-21—an annual, city-wide event that attracts approximately 1,000 students in four different age groups.

Highlights for Geoscience:

• Meaghan Mealey, grade 6
  • Winner in earth sciences at elementary level for project entitled “Clean and Green”—sponsored by Department of Geosciences

• Sunand Kannappan, grade 7
  • Top project in the earth sciences at secondary level for project entitled “Advanced Bitumen Thermal Extraction Technology”—sponsored by Department of Geosciences
