Graduate Programs

The Department of Geoscience provides excellent opportunities for research in most areas of geology, geophysics, and hydrology. The varied research interests of the faculty provide opportunities for a wide range of graduate research topics as well as collaborative projects with faculty who have different specialties.

The MSc thesis based program allows a maximum of 4 years to completion but it is encouraged that students finish in 2 years.  PhD students are allowed a maximum of 6 years to complete the program.  Course-based students are allowed a maximum of 6 years to complete program requirements.

Master's (MSc) Thesis-based

This is a full-time degree with an expected completion time of two years, typically requiring a Bachelor's degree in the same or a closely related discipline.

Master's (MSc) Course-based

  • Note: also offered is a MSc course-based degree with a specialization in Reservoir Characterization

This degree is suitable for full-time or part-time students who are not necessarily oriented towards research activity. It typically requires a Bachelor's degree in the same or a related discipline..

Doctoral (PhD) Thesis-based

This is a full-time degree with an expected completion time of 4 years, typically requiring a Master's degree in the same or a closely related discipline.
