This award recognizes excellence in service, community engagement and outreach initiatives falling outside the traditional roles of teaching and research, that result in enhancement of relationships within the Department of Geoscience and between the Geoscience Department and its stakeholder communities.
No monetary remuneration is associated with this award. Recipient will receive a certificate and have their name placed on a Departmental plaque.
The nominee must demonstrate evidence of exceptional service, community engagement or outreach activities. Excellence in these areas can be distinguished by enhanced satisfaction, relationships and efficiencies within the Department, or enhanced public interest and interaction between the Department or Faculty and the external community, resulting in mutually beneficial relationships. A strong nomination will be a concise presentation of a candidate’s actions, activities and results.
Community engagement awards are open to ALL academic staff (including limited term, contingent term and continuing appointments) in the Geoscience Department.
Academic staff may win this award more than once; however, they will only be considered after a minimum of five years has passed since receipt of a previous Geoscience Department community engagement award. Past award winners being nominated again must show evidence of growth and change in their community engagement activities within the time period between the past award and current nomination.
Any member of the Department of Geoscience with direct knowledge of the nominee’s contributions (undergraduate student, graduate student, research fellow, faculty, staff). Self-nominations will not be accepted.
