Research Facility Information

The Department has numerous computer facilities operating on its own local network and supported be the University's main IT systems. There are three full PC labs, one operated by the Geoscience Professional Development Centre, local server clusters in a dedicated machine room, and uncountable peripherals. The Department also hosts the data processing centre for the national LITHOPROBE project, which operates a series of Sun computers with ITA software.

An industry-sponsored seismic exploration research effort within the Department (the CREWES project) operates many Landmark seismic interpretation workstations.

Various standard geophysical software packages are available for use on the Department's computers.

The University operates numerous advanced computer systems, workstations, and Xstations.
