Facilities & Equipment

The Department has numerous computer facilities operating on its own local network and supported be the University's main IT systems. There are two full PC labs, local server clusters in a dedicated server room, and uncountable peripherals.

An industry-sponsored seismic exploration research effort within the Department (the CREWES project) operates many seismic and processing interpretation systems including an 130 processor Linux cluster.
Various industry software packages are available for use on the Department's computers supporting geophysics, hydrology, petroleum and petrophysics teaching and research. .

The University operates numerous advanced computer systems and workstations.

Library Facilities:

Research and study facilities are available in the Gallagher Library of Geology and Geophysics (in the Earth Sciences Building) and in the main University Library.

Proximities:

Calgary is located 80km east of the Rockies. The Department is across the street form the Calgary office of the Geological Survey of Canada and the Core Research Centre of the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board. The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology is located about 1.5 hours away in Drumheller.
