The 2009 Cordilleran Tectonics Workshop
The 2009 Cordilleran Tectonics Workshop will be held on February 20-22 at the University of Calgary. This annual conference brings together Cordilleran researchers from academia, government and industry in an informal setting. We encourage attendance from all those carrying out research in the Cordillera, particularly graduate students. Contributions are welcome in any of the geological disciplines that contribute to our understanding of Cordilleran tectonics - mapping, structural geology, petrology, geophysics, geochemistry, geochronology, stratigraphy, paleontology and others.
Place: Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Building, University of Calgary

LODGING Our recommendation is to stay at Motel Village, a collection of motels and hotels suited for all budgets that is within 15-minute walking distance (or a one-stop train ride) from the University. Please see the attached map (Motel Village to University) for walking routes. The majority of Motel Village options are included in the Google Maps link below: There is also a wide variety of generally more upscale accommodations downtown. One can easily stay downtown and reach the University by taking the LRT train (Dalhousie route) from a number of stations on 7th Avenue northward to the University. A one-way ticket costs $2.50, and a daily pass is $6.75.
GROUP DINNER AT THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY In Calgary, the Old Spaghetti Factory is downtown, in the Eau Claire Market on the corner of 3rd St. and 2nd Ave SW. For those driving downtown, there is cheap parking right at the market. The easiest route downtown, however, is the LRT train, which leaves directly from the university and runs within 5 blocks of Eau Claire(4th St. SW station) - the train also stops at Motel Village, the smattering of hotels and motels just one stop from the university(Banff Trail Station). We'll be having dinner at 8pm of Saturday evening. Map of Downtown and Eau Claire Market Driving directions from the University to Eau Claire Market If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us! We're looking forward to seeing you in February!
